MoU signing for Maternal and Child Help Project

In March, 2009 the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Pakkading Mathernal and Child Health Project in Bolikhamxay Province were signed between World Vision Lao PDR and the Province Department of Health to continue the program in Pakkading District.

Dr. Somphone Chanthanasouk, Deputy Head of Bolikhanxay Health Deparment and Mr. Stephen Rozario National Director of World Vision Laos signed the MoU with the withness from provincial government officials and ministry of Public Health official and World Vision Lao staff.

The Project is in the second phase and is collaboration between World Vision Lao and local Health Authority. The first phase of the project was from June 2005 to June 2007 and this second phase will be continuing until Febuary 2011 with the total grant is US$244,154.

Dr. Somephone said 10 years ago the mother and child motality was hign so the Bolikhaxay Department looked how it could acquire funding from the international organization to remedy the situation.

The project is implementing in 51 villages and the aim is to improve the health of children under five and the mother and also aim to reduce the motality and malnutrition in children under five with special attention to children age 0-24 months.
