Vision Statement

Our vision for every child, life in all its fullness;
Our prayer for every heart, the will to make it so.

Who We Are

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization working to create lasting change in the lives of children, families and communities living in poverty. Through our partnerships with local communities and government, World Vision seeks to develop the capacity for the poor to improve their lives through sustainable development.

Who We Serve

World Vision’s work is focused on the lives of the poorest children and their families in Lao PDR. World Vision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

How We Serve

Relationship is the starting point and end goal of World Vision’s work. We work with community members to build partnerships that enable them to determine priorities and set goals that would empower them to achieve development that transforms their lives. World Vision believes that full community participation, especially of women and children, will ensure the long-term sustainability of projects and lead to stronger communities.

Why We Serve

Motivated by our Christian faith, and in partnership with communities, government, and donors, World Vision seeks to enable children and their families to realize their God-given potential by tackling the causes of poverty.

Where We Serve

Employing over 270 staff, World Vision works in 31 districts across 6 provinces (Bolikhamxay, Champasak, Khammouan, Luang Prabang, Savannakhet, and Vientiane). Program areas World Vision focus on include Disaster Preparedness, Education, Food Security, HIV and AIDS, and Human Trafficking, Mother & Child Healthcare, and Water & Sanitation.

How We Are Funded

World Vision receives funding from multiple sources including private grants, government agencies such as USAID and AUSAID, and individual donors through child sponsorship. Sponsors make monthly contributions from countries including Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. Today, over 10,000 children are sponsored through World Vision.

Our History

World Vision’s work in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic began in 1968 when relief assistance was provided to displaced people who were suffering from the Indo-Chinese War affecting the region. The initial work of World Vision was followed by a variety of projects including polio rehabilitation, vocational training, and leprosy relief. World Vision left Lao PDR temporarily in 1975 and was invited back in 1991 to resume its development work. Child sponsorship was first introduced in 2003 and funds Area Development Programs (ADP) which are long-term projects (10-15 years) designed to improve the lives of the poor. With children at heart, community self-sufficiency is the chief goal for World Vision’s ADPs. Today, World Vision is working to build the capacity of poor communities to identify and address their agricultural, education, economic, health and other basic needs, so that their children can be assured brighter futures.

Our Core Values

We are committed to the poor - Together we share the quest for equality, peace, reconciliation, and healing.

We are stewards - We are faithful to the purpose for which resources are entrusted to us and manage them in a manner that brings maximum benefit to the poor.
